En Hannah Montana esta, Miley es una chica muy sarcástica de 14 años y no duda nunca en plantar cara a las pijas de su cole. Hannah, sin embargo, no es tan atrevida. Su madre murió cuando tenía 10 años.
Cursa el 8º básico en la escuela de Seaview, y Hannah Montana, su alter-ego, es de la misma edad.
Su padre Robbie la llama con frecuencia “Bud” y su hermano siempre la molesta con el apodo “Miles”. Sus mejores amigos son Lilly Truscott y Oliver Oken. Sus archi-enemigas son Amber y Ashley, dos adolescentes que son más populares que Miley y Lilly en el colegio. Ella está enamorada de Jake Ryan, una estrella de TV que va a su colegio, al que también le gusta Miley.

Su madrina es su tía Dolly y su abuela se llama Ruthie. Además tiene una guardaespalda llamada Roxie.
